Our Goodwill Ambassador celebrates his 90th birthday this Sunday
Donald H. Loucks celebrates his 90th birthday on July 24, 2005 and he would love to see you there. Tecumseh United Church is hosting a reception with cake and refreshments immediately after its 10:00 a.m. service which concludes by 11:00 a.m. Don, a long time Tecumseh resident, is known by many for his numerous appearances in the Tecumseh Corn Festival parade and other functions, wearing his trademark red blazer, covered in the pins, badges crests and medals he has collected over the years. ... Meeting on OMB – Lakewood Decision
Tecumseh Council has met with its lawyer, Tom Lederer, who lead the Town’s successful defence in the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearing on the matter of Lakewood golf Course. The four-week hearing took place in April, 2005 with a decision by the OMB issued at the end of June, denying applications by Sumatara Investments Limited to develop the 91-acre golf course parcel. Local student receives prestigous scholarship award
Four young area residents received a Millennium Excellence Award from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation in recognition of their community involvement, demonstrated leadership abilities, innovative thinking and academic achievement. Baby Signers giving babies a head start with their hands
A 14-month- old struggles to get his car out of the toy box but it won’t budge. For most toddlers the frustration produces tears or angry howls – or a combination of both– that eventually summon Mom or Dad to figure out what the problem is. Not so for Nathan St. Louis. This 14-month-old simply calls to Mom and puts his little hands on his upper chest. My Memé, Mary Masse, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2005, with all of her loving family around her. She was 73 years old. Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Theodore Masse; her daughters, Connie Chambers and husband Jack, Vicki Moulden and husband Ron, Debra Kostanjevec and husband Dave and her sons, David Masse and wife Barb, Richard Masse and wife Sheree. Special thanks to Tecumseh Fire Rescue for assisting with the video shoot of Just Imagine – the song written by Tecumseh’s Glen MacNeil and inspired by the life of Terry Fox – at Lacasse Park. Manning/Tecumseh Road project begins with hydro mishap
Fortunatley there were no injuries when a service truck pulled down a hydro pole on Tecumseh Road on the afternoon of July 12, just the second day into hydro pole repacement and relocation – initial work in the Manning/Tecumseh Road reconstruction. The incident was otherwise ominous, causing major disruptions and inconvenience to businesses and residents who were without power until as late as 11: 00 p.m. in some instances. Town Hall Re-Tendered, Move Delayed
The temporary relocation of municipal offices to the Public Works building has been delayed as tender calls for the renovation of Tecumseh Town Hall were re-issued. The tenders will be opened on July 21, 2005. The $1 million renovation project came in higher than the Town’s estimates. “We re-tendered, clarifying the demolition component of the project,” Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara said earlier this week. Tecumseh’s Terry Fox Run Committee has found a sponsor who will pay the $2,500 cost of printing 1,000 copies of the “Just Imagine” CD. Local Terry Fox Committee member Glen MacNeil wrote the song on inspiration after learning more about the life, determination and spirit of the late Terry Fox. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Terry Fox run for Cancer Research. Setting a realistic pace for women’s fitness
A pear joined a gym, worked hard, dieted, bought trendy workout clothes and still she thought she didn’t fit in, so she stopped going. Donations sought for historic Ursuline cross repair
Results of the Tecumseh Area Historical Society’s appeal for donations to assist in costly repairs to the stylized Celtic cross that once sat on top of the Ursuline’s St. Anthony’s convent in Tecumseh have been disappointing. Interestingly, a donation came from Detroit when the first appeal was made in May of this year. The cross was vandalized last fall and the repairs entail metal work to the caved in areas. Assault Investigation Continues
Essex OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation into the July 9, 2005 Break and Enter and Assault which occurred at a house party on Puce Rd., in the Town of Lakeshore. More road projects eyed for next year
Complete reconstruction of Brighton Road from Riverside Drive to the CN/VIA tracks is being contemplated for next year. Mayor Gary McNamara reports that 2006 road projects will be finalized by October of this year so that the Town of Tecumseh can take advantage of early tendering cost savings.
