Cornfest Colouring Contest since 1985

Brouillette Manor residents handled the big job for 10 years. This is the second year Extendicare Tecumseh residents are called upon. Local artists draw the pictures and Nibby has had fun being included in them over the years. This year’s colouring contest picture was illustrated by aspiring graphic artist Jen Moulden. Carter Shows Carnival
Almost as deeply rooted in the community as the Tecumseh Corn Festival, is the traditional return of Carter Shows Carnival. For many years now, we’ve seen them pull into town, with their big trucks and trailers, on the Monday or Tuesday before the festival. They unload piece by piece, ride by ride in preparation for yet another Corn Festival weekend, and the many children and adults alike who come to the Festival to enjoy the carnival. Established in 1939 by Ernie Carter, a man wh... [read more]

Breathe Easy
As the people of Essex County are enjoying the long, balmy days of summer, more and more of us are reaching for the tissues. If you suffer from seasonal allergies or allergic asthma, you are not alone. Studies show that as much as 25% of the population is suffering. The itchy, watery eyes, congestion, coughing, sneezing and runny nose, (commonly known as hayfever) can be an inconvenience at the least, and for some can be quite debilitating. The cause of allergic reactions is based in... [read more]

On the Corn Festival Main Stage…Sat, Aug 27, 2005 6:00 p.m: The one & only Eddie Money
“Everything I do, I do it for you”. Eddie Money says it at least once, every show. And he means it. This straight up rock and roll icon has been making music and delivering it to his fans since the mid 70’s, and wouldn’t have it any other way. With hits like “Two Tickets To Paradise”, “Baby Hold On”, “Walk On Water”, “Think I’m In Love” and “Shakin”, Eddie continues to be one of the hardest working men in rock and roll. Performing a compact 150 or so shows every year, Eddie is always touring,... [read more]

How much corn would an Optimist need, if an Optimist could need corn? (Too corny?)
For over 20 years, the good folks of the St. Clair Beach Optimist Club have been dishing out the Corn Festival’s trademark “Hot-Buttered-Corn-On-The-Cob”. To give you a better scope on just how much these local do-gooders contribute to the annual event, here are a few facts and figures: Each year, the St. Clair Beach Optimist Club Corn Booth uses about 200 lbs of butter! That’s 640,000 calories! Don’t worry, you’ll walk it off at the Corn Festival. In addition, crates of salt and p... [read more]

A yearly average of 25 tons of the very best corn available is donated to the Tecumseh Corn Festival by Johnny O’s Family Tradition Foods.

During their first few “Corn Booth Years” the St. Clair Beach Optimist Club would husk all their corn by hand - that’s right all 20 to 25 tons of it!

The St. Clair Beach Optimist Club requires a lot of man hours at Corn Fest time. Along with their group members, volunteers from the community at large help with taking shifts at the Optimist Corn Booth.

Greetings from the 2005 Tecumseh Corn Festival Vice Chair
Thirty years. Quite the anniversary. At thirty, most of us are still full of youthful energy, yet able to be reflective of our life. We embrace change, yet are able to recognize and appreciate the history we have created. That is where we, the Tecumseh Corn Festival Committee, find ourselves this year. Willing to attempt something new, and at the same time, honouring our past. We reflect this dichotomy in this year’s Festival. Nibby returns, but with a new costume. The old parade floa... ReGaeling us with music
Glen Mac Neil and Mark Crampsie’s musical recipe consists of folk, a dash of country, a pinch of pop and some Celtic flavouring to give it that litttle something extra. Then simmer it all on a Cape Breton flame. When you put it all together you dish up ReGael - featuring Irish & Canadian music. ReGael, made up of Glen MacNeil and Mark Crampsie, will be entertaining us on the main stage of the Corn Fest, this year, on Thursday, August 25 at 7 p.m. For Glen, this will be his s... [read more]

Meadows is Back!
After a 10 year absence from the Corn Fest the band that entertained us for 12 years will perform on Saturday, August 27 at 6 p.m.. This time they’re out of thebeer tent and onto the main stage as the opening act for Eddie Money. Meadows, started in 1975 had two versions of the band. The band we’ll be hearing on stage this year is an amalgamation of both. Although the band stopped playing together in 1994, they said they “wouldn’t miss it” when asked to play at the 3... New this year: Cornfest Parade bands have their own show
Everybody loves the Largest Small Town Parade that has been a part of the Corn Festival since the beginning. It always seems that we never get enough of the bands who march by. Well, Corn Festival Committee parade organizer Melissa McNamara took care of that for the 30th anniversary. The 2005 Corn Festival Parade bands will have the chance to show off to an appreciative Cornfest audience shortly after the parade is finished. The Cornfest Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27. A... [read more]

30 Years On The Rise!! (or how we make more money, but we can afford less)
With gasoline peaking at just over a dollar a litre this past week, we thought it would be a fun (and enlightening) trip down memory lane, to revisit some advertising from 30 years ago. Like the ghost of Christmas past, these ads - featured on the back page of the 1975 Tecumseh Tribune - show us just how much our lifestyle costs us today. (Oh, and by the way, the grocer that placed these ads has long since closed its doors, so don't think you're going to clip out a coupon and s... [read more]

Newly upgraded Maidstone Recreation Centre open to all
There’s a new look and purpose to the Maidstone Recreation Centre, located in Tecumseh’s Maidstone Hamlet, west of the tracks on County Road 34. Most know the building as the home of the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus, but with improvements to the facility there is new emphasis on Maidstone Recreation Centre (MRC) and its potential for many uses, say MRC members. A $43,000 Trillium grant awarded to the registered non-profit MRC last year allowed for landscape improvements to its four-acr... [read more]
