Members of the Tecumseh delegation (Brian Hillman is on left) with Tsumeb municipal Council and administration. In anticipation of the arrival of the fire truck, the town has hired a full time fire chief. And the fire fighters are trained volunteers. In past practice, fires were responded to by public works staff and the service was mandatory. Moral and efficiency have flourished under the competency of the new chief who has willing fire fighters eager to train and and improve their skills. Of course, with the extremely hot temperatures (it was in the 40’s ºC during their October visit) “training” is a popular attraction for the children and adults alike. Our fire truck/equipment leader went to great effort (Our rotarians thus went to great expense) for a custom made hose connector that allows the Tsumeb department to draw fresh water from nearby lakes. (See p. 10 for letters from the children. )
