For the first time in 10 years of the Tecumseh Golden Age Cribbage Club’s weekly games, somebody had a perfect hand. That Friday afternoon of January 20, 2006 there was a bit of a hoopla over Helen Johnson’s luck. Seed collector seeks quality trees |
Local certified seed collector Daniel Ure is working toward the restoration of tree coverage in Essex County. The decimation of ash trees due to the emerald ash borer has increased demand for replacement trees, which has underscored the need for reliable seed supplies for growers. • Transfer of Federal gas tax revenues to the Town of Tecumseh have been authorized.The Town’s gas tax allocations amount to $391,625. 26 per year for 2005 and 2006, a total of $783,250.50. Tecusmeh Council approved using that total for the Pentilly Road recnostruciton project.

Residents weigh in on Maidstone Hamlet Secondary Plan |
Maidstone Hamlet residents expressed concerns with modifications made to the Maidstone Hamlet Secondary Plan. The revisions were made in response to changes advised by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The Ministry has yet to approve the plan, but with the revisions made by Director pf Planning, Brian Hillman, the Town is confident the plan will have the support of the province and “would be defendable at an (Ontario Municipal Board) hearing,” Mayor Gary McNamara said.

County budget concerns |
Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara and Deputy Mayor Tom Burton plan to make a motion at the next County Council meeting to defer passing the County’s proposed $98.6 million budget and allow its review by the CAO’s of the lower tier member municipalities.
“Tecumseh is not very pleased,” Mayor Gary McNamara said on his and Deputy Mayor Burton’s behalf.

The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup (DRCC) holds a Household Chemical Collection during the month of February 2006. The Environmental Assessment (EA) for the widening of Manning Road from the VIA tracks to County Road 22 is completed and the 30-day comment period saw an objection from Candian Tire Corporation filed with the Ministry for closer review.

The Town of Tecumseh will benefit from the funds raised at the third annual Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event, presented by Scotiabank. In June of 2005, Grant Gagnon, Renée Coughlin and Mark Mitchell led a team of volunteers to organize the community based event in Tecumseh which raised over $4,400.

The Tecumseh Area Historical Society (TAHS) would like to know more about this photograph recently given to the TAHS. Information provided with it states that this picture was taken in 1946, in front of the original Tecumseh Town Hall on Lesperance Road (where the municipal/Legion parking lot now exists).
