Thrill of competition and pride of accomplishment at Royal Winter Fair
“Learning by Doing” is the 4-H motto and young Tyler Nostadt of Tecumseh has been doing just that since he was 7 years old. He’s learned a lot about raising prize-winning livestock from parents John and Christine and grandparents Jack and Donna Nostadt. Their family run feedlot cattle operation numbers 300 head. Dorion set on more community work with retirement
Tecumseh Councillor Guy Dorion was the guest of honour last Friday at Johnny Shotz, where well wishers from the Town of Tecumseh and City of Windsor gave him a proper retirement send off. Dorion retires from Windsor Fire Rescue with 32 years of service, a firefighter for 22 years and spending the last decade in education and inspection. Tax hike in Tecumseh’s draft budget
Tecumseh Council has a draft budget to consider that could see a tax levy increase of 5.9% in the municipal portion of your tax bill. Of that, 2.9% would go to implementation of the Lifecycle (capital) costing plan that began in 2005. The remaining 3.0% would provide for operational requirements. Tecumseh Road construction resumes…
After a brief winter reprieve for motorists, J. LePera Contracting has resumed work on the reconstruction of Tecumseh Road. Installation of the storm sewer under the VIA Rail tracks, just east of Lacasse Boulevard commenced last week, as has storm sewer installation on the south side of Tecumseh Road from VIA Rail moving easterly. About the Lifecycle budget in year 2
In 2005 the Town of Tecumseh began using Lifecycle Costing, to develop a lifecylce plan for a variety of infrastructure and operating expenditure categories. The Lifecycle increase in the Town’s proposed budget of 2.9% amounts to $356,000 in taxation revenue. The Lifecycle increase is in year 2 of Tecumseh’s long term plan to provide the resources required to maintain the Town’s tax supported infrastructure. Tree planting and care workshop
As the weather is warming up, people are starting to think about planting and post-planting care for their trees. • Tecumseh Council passed a by-law to authorize the agreement with the Police Service Board and the province towards the funding of an additional police officer in Tecumseh. The $30,000 Community Policing Partnership grant will bring on a new OPP officer in April of this year. Tecumseh at odds with County over budget
Tecumseh’s members who sit on Essex County Council are frustrated with the County’s budget process that’s resulted in a draft budget with an increase of 13.04% when the actual increase in expenditures over base programs and services provided in 2005 are calculated. “And little or no information to substantiate it,” said Gary McNamara in a phone interview on Monday from Toronto where he is attending a conference for rural municipalities of Ontario. Residents give thumbs up at Town Hall open house
~By: Cheryl Hardcastle Tecumseh residents saw for themselves the new look at Town Hall, after $1.5 million in renovations that transformed the former space of the Tecumseh Fire Station to the new council chambers, and reconfigured the existing building for meeting rooms, offices and work space. The work was undertaken by Trillium Contracting, with the in-house design by Building Services Area Manager Mike Vogeli, and Director of Information Systems Shaun Fuerth. You can still check out the renovation work. Council meetings are scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesday of every month and council’s agenda items are posted on a projection screen for visitors to follow along with the business being discussed.



Pre-hearing by OMB next week
A pre-hearing scheduled by the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) takes place on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Tecumseh Town Hall , beginning at 10:30 a.m. The OMB case regards settlement of the purchase price of the expropriated land at Manning and Baseline. The Town paid out $6,000 per acre on approximately 300 acres of land zoned agricultural in 2001.About 120 acres of that includes the Fairplay Woods woodlot, which the Town has since protected through the Essex Region Conservation Authority. ...
