Tecumseh Corn Festival recognized
The Town of Tecumseh and the Tecumseh Corn Festival Committee are pleased to announce that the Tecumseh Corn festival has received official distinction as one of the Top 50 Festivals in Ontario as recognized by Festival and Events Ontario. Lots’a Locks for Love…
Stylist Mary Cozzetto of Advanced Rejuvenation Spa gave Tecumseh’s Shand Goulin an extreme new look to benefit Locks For Love, which provides natural wigs to cancer patients. Goulin, 22, a second year Sociology student at the University of Windsor, was inspired by generous people in his life affected by cancer. Where the tax dollars go
This graph, prepared by Town of Tecumseh CAO Greg Keating for the 2006 budget presentation to Town Council, shows the percentage of municipal tax dollars required by each department. This year, Tecumseh’s total taxation revenues will amount to $13 million. Of that $3.7 million is allocated for Lifecycle/capital issues and $9.3 million is for operations. ... [read more]


For the typical household in Tecumseh assessed at $225,302, the municipal tax share amounts to $1,080. Town CAO Greg Keating prepared this graph showing the breakdown of where each of those dollars is spent by the Town of Tecumseh. ( Note that “transportation” refers to road infrastructure.)

Carriere buys FTF plant
Canada’s largest processor of canned and frozen vegetables purchased the Family Tradition Foods (Tecumseh) Plant last month. Educational Assistant laid to rest
As police continue to investigate the homicide hit-and-eun case that resulted in the death of 40 year old Nancy Quick, of Tecumseh, the community’s support and prayers are with her family. The educational assistant at St. William School in Emeryville was laid to rest on Monday, March 6, 2006. Tecumseh has lost a true lion-hearted gentleman in Tom Lavin who passed away on March 1, at 88 years. He leaves a legacy of goodwill inspired by his sincerity in reaching out with his trademark greetings, ‘How are you doing” and ‘Have a great day’ as well as his generosity and community spirit. In 1973 he founded his real estate business Thomas A. Lavin Realty. Tecumseh approves 4.77% tax increase for 2006
The 2006 budget, approved by Tecumseh Council on February 28, 2006 will raise the municipal portion of residential tax bills by 4.77% and that includes the increase in property assessments. For a typical home in Tecumseh assessed at a market value of $225,300 for this taxation year, it amounts to an increase of about $48. Cuts made to a draft budget that proposed a near 6% tax increase, were put forth by administration and included reducing the Corn Festival’s budget to $15,000, less than... [read more]

OMB hearing on expropriated land scheduled
The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) has set aside two weeks beginning September 18, 2006 to settle the purchase price of 300 acres expropriated by the Town of Tecumseh in 2002. The Town has paid the former owners $1.8 million, a price of $6,000 per acre, based on the land’s agricultural zoning. The property is located at Manning and Baseline, just north of the 401. Taoist Tai Chi proves popular in Tecumseh
Young or old, in fit health or not, anyone can benefit from the gentle art of Taoist Tai Chi. This past winter the Town of Tecumseh received a grant to subsidize two sessions of Taoist Tai Chi for seniors in the community. The classes were very popular, with 54 people in the first session and 64 attending the second. Tecumseh Seniors Transit takes on 2006
With $61,444 in funding this year from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Tecumseh Seniors Transit (TST) also receives support from community and corporate donors to operate the bus service for seniors and persons with disabilities in Tecumseh. The bus service operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. and does charters by special arrangement for weekends. Essex County’s Maple Festival this Sunday!
Kick off March Break week with Essex County’s only maple syrup festival! On Sunday, March 12, 2006, from 11am-4pm, visit the John R. Park Homestead and Conservation Area.
