Hair today, gone tomorrow for T2B’s sake
The students of École Secondaire L'Essor just keep on giving to Transition to Betterness (T2B), a local charity which supports cancer patients and their families. On Wednesday, May 31. 2006, in the new auditorium at L’Essor, four students had their hair cut as part of T2B’s Hair to Share program to support cancer patients. With the cut-a-thon pledges and Club De Sang’s yogurt sales in the cafeteria, their proud presentation to T2B totaled $1,255. In exceeding their $1,000 goal, math teache... [read more]


Grade 11 student Stella Drouillard had her hair cut for the T2B cause. L’Essor’s Club De Sang has been participating in the T2B cut-a-thon program for two years now and has grossed $1800.00. Their ongoing T2B fundraising included Hat Day on June 2, where students bought the right to wear hats in school.



Sign promotion for Town
On Saturday June 3, 2006, Tecumseh Council received $10,000 toward new signage for the Town from a company called Kalitec which was participating in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Trade Show. Lions Club makes a wish come true
The Tecumseh Lions Club recently made a donation to the Southwestern Ontario chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation, to fulfill a young girl’s wish to “see the Disney princesses” at Disney World. The $6,000 donation was presented to the Make A Wish Foundation’s Jonathan Allison, who made a compelling presentation to the Lions a few months ago. Young musical talent
Marianne Brooks (left) and Olivia Musselwhite took Honourable Mentions in their respective divisions of the international Music For Young Children Composition Competition. From Ontario there were 628 entries in 9-year-old Marianne’s division and 569 in 7-year-old Olivia’s. The Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council 4375, otherwise known as “TLC” – Tecumseh Ladies Council, held their last meeting until fall on Thursday, June 1, 2006. It has been a busy and successful year for the group, pictured at right. Since September, 2005, TLC has raised a total of $5,037 for worthy community projects and charities. Public Board eyes Tecumseh for new schools
The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) has Tecumseh in its sites for a new elementary and secondary school. The GECDSB’s 2006 Annual Accommodation Planning Report is being presented by Director Mary Jean Gallagher at the board’s next meeting on June 7, 2006. Tecumseh Firefighters take the challenge
Tecumseh Fire Rescue will be making its mark on the Firefighters’ combat Challenge Circuit. Windsor’s Fools for Health clown doctor program recently hosted a visit from world renowned physician and clown-doctor, Dr. Peter Spitzer (a.k.a. Good news for Tecumseh in the announcement of three doctors joining the healthcare team at the Tecumseh Community Health Care Walk-In Clinic next to Tecumseh Pharmacy in the Lakeland Plaza. Dr. Haider Hasnain who runs the walk-in clinic reports that Dr. Adam Sayed-Ali is making the move from Michigan back to Canada with his wife and young family and is now accepting new patients to his family practice. Visitors arrive from Africa next week
Tecumseh will host its twin town of Tsumeb, Namibia, located on the Atlantic coast of southern Africa when a delegation of three arrives on June 17, 2006. The Mayor of Tsumeb, Engelbrecht Nawatisb, will be accompanied by Planner Nico Nieuwoudt and Human Resources Officer Eino Hauuanga. Students must think about safety on the summer job

Road work ahead…
The Town of Tecumseh has several major projects underway, including Pentilly road reconstruction which began last month and regrinding/asphalting of Tecumseh Road to City limits will begin in the next two weeks. The Town of Tecumseh’s Planning Department has requested more detailed information on how servicing would be accomplished for a proposed residential development on Lakewood Golf Course. Sumatara Investment Ltd. made application to develop the subject lands in August of 2003. A lengthy OMB hearing saw Sumatara’s appeal of the Town’s decision not to grant re-zoning denied. Town considers new develoment charges
The Town’s Policies and Priorities Committee has recommended new development charges that will see a decrease from the current rates adopted in 2004. In a report prepared by servicing consultant Gary Scanlan, who was retained for the development charges review in 2003 that made way for the 2004 by-law.
