2nd Annual Christmas in Tecumseh…
The sidewalks leading to Green Acres Optimist Park were busy as strollers and wagons were pushed and pulled on the balmy evening of November 25, 2006. Atom Minor Eagles take tournament title too…
The Tecumseh Eagles Atom Minor AA Hockey Team won the 23rd Annual AA Tournament of Champions in Stoney Creek on the weekend of November 17, 2006. Their record was 5 - 0 for the tournament, with a 1.4 goals against average. The Eagles beat the Richmond Hill Stars in the final game, 4 - 2. Br. 261 Veterans recognized with Legion’s longstanding service pins
This distinguished group are the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 261 Veterans who were among the 47 Legion members awarded with service pins signifying 25 up to 60 years service. The presentation was made at the Br. 261 Remembrance Day Banquet, which culminated a day of reflection and ceremony. Students prove teachers are real characters…
St. Gregory School had an enjoyable afternoon last Thursday when their teachers made good on a deal to dress up as superheros or story book characters as pictured below. On left, Mrs. Metler (a.k.a. The Tooth Fairy) and Madame Lacombe (a.k.a. Mother Goose) play up to the excited crowd. St. Gregory students raised over $16,000 in their annual read-a-thon and with that, the teachers also got sprayed with silly string! The students also earned a Beach Day on December 21, 2006. Shaping up a season of caring and sharing…
Guests from Canada Post and the Salvation Army, along with St. Peter’s Grade 8 students paid a visit to the grade one classes at St. Peter School to help them write those all important letters to the chief elf himself last Thursday. Local Canada Post employees brought along special stationary for the letters and toy bears for the students who in turn, donated them to the Salvation Army along with goods from the school’s can drive. Bantam Major Eagles take tournament title…
The Tecumseh Eagles Bantam Major AA Hockey Team went undefeated on the weekend of Nov 17-19 enroute to winning the Stoney Creek AA hockey tournament. Great team effort lead by stellar goaltending and strong overall defense from the entire team saw a total of only 3 goals against in the 5 games played. St. Anne’s move at end of school year likely
Tecumseh area Trustee Chris Janisse says he will support a recommendation to defer transferring St. Anne High School students to the new school until the next school year, September, 2007. The report is to be dealt with at the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board’s next meeting on November 28, 2006, after The Tribune’s print deadline. Letter carrier retires after 34 years on same route
Last week Randy Michea bid farewell to the Riverside neighbourhood, across from Sand Point Beach, affectionately known as “Dog Patch”. For the past 34 years, Michea (Gaelic spelling, pronounced Mi-shay) has been their Canada Post letter carrier, working out of the postal station in Tecumseh. “I’ve never been much for change I guess, but I’ve seen enough of it on my route…I’ve seen four generations grow up in some families,” he says. Victoria Public School is very excited to be launching their Read-a-thon fundraiser. A kick off assembly was held last Friday where students learned of the different themes for each classroom. Students will have the opportunity to visit each classroom during the Read-a-thon on December 15. Some of the exciting themes include outer space, the jungle, under the sea and Robert Munsch. Extendicare resident joins Centenarian club
Olga Fox turns 100 years old on December 11, 2006. Like the Centenarians interviewed before her, Olga is proud to say hers has been a life of honest, hard work. Born in South Dakota in 1906, her family moved to Minnesota before settling in Wisconsin. She was the fourth of 12 children. Her father was a dairy farmer. “My dad had 160 cows and he never milked a one,” she says. “We kids each milked 30 by hand, before school.” Wouldn’t get away with that today, she agrees, but still, the memories ... Cookbooks support Project Lifesaver
Project Lifesaver was piloted here in Tecumseh and launched throughout Essex County in July of last year. Administered by the OPP, Project Lifesaver is a tracking device for people with dementia and is worn as a bracelet so that caregivers and police can locate a loved one that has wandered off. This month, St. Gregory School is preparing for their annual school play. This year’s production is called “The Storybook Christmas.” It will be held on December 13th and 14th at 7:00pm. Public warned of men posing as Hydro Workers Two Elderly residents on West River Street notified Lakeshore OPP on Nov 25th of 2 males that had attended their residence. The males accessed their home by identifying themselves as hydro workers and requested to read their meters. The residents contacted hydro immediately after the suspects' departure and proved the males to be imposters. Tecumseh Seniors’ Transit Inc. provides services for residents 55 years and older and those with disabilities. Mayor runs for County Warden
