Pork producer named to Essex County Agricultural Hall of Fame |
The Essex County Agricultural Hall of Fame will induct Tecumseh farmer Gerald “Butch” Gemus at the 2010 ceremony taking place on April 1.
The Town of Tecumseh nominated Mr. Gemus for his “innovation” and “fraternization” in promoting responsible and successful farm practices, from natural ventilation of livestock barns to soil research, Mr. Gemus has 53 years of work and dedication that has earned him this recognition.

Gruesome and poignant images have portrayed the destruction and suffering in Haiti since the earthquake dealt its apocalyptic blow on January 12, 2010.

Above, one of the young patients Dr. Butler treated who sustained sever injuries in the earthquake and waited nine days for medical attention. “They are so stoic. Even the toddlers were able to tolerate my treatment with no sedation. They handled the trauma exceptionally well,” he recounted for the Tribune in an interview last week when he shared these pictures.
For some adults, the psychological and emotional trauma of losing entire families led to complex trauma that can’t be treated with splints, stitches and antibiotics.

Tecumseh Doctor Geoff Butler, who runs the St. Clair Beach Walk-in Clinic, travelled three weeks ago to an outpost camp some 12 km. west of Port-au-Prince with a team of seven other doctors from across Canada.
Through Humanitarian First, the medical team provided emergency treatment to earthquake victims who were being seen for the first time nine -13 days after their injuries. In all, they treated about 4,000 people.

Single vehicle collision claims life of Tecumseh woman

Former Tecumseh School Trustee Kay Dame was involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at around 8:00 p.m. in the Town of Lakeshore. O.P.P. advised that her 1992 Chevrolet Lumina was northbound on County Road 25 when it left the roadway, landing upside down in the east side ditch.
Kay was the lone occupant of the vehicle and she was not wearing her seat belt.
