Wow, what a team! The Tecumseh TechnoBots have done it again! This block robotics team took first place in the Windsor Regional FIRST Lego League Competition on November 19.
“We are so proud of them! They were just awesome in teamwork, spirit, and did lots of fancy footwork troubleshooting last minute hitches with the robot and programming,” says coach Angie Chauvin.
Their win has qualified the team to go on. The Tecumseh Technobots are now off to Toronto in December 10 for the provincial event. Four members of the team are Tecumseh kids who attend St. Pius X. The remaining four are home schoolers from Amhersburg. Together they have come up with an awesome presentation for this year’s FIRST Lego League mission on the theme “Ocean Odyssey”.
The theme was introduced to the Technobots at the international competition in Atlanta earlier this spring. They earned their spot there with provincial and national first place finishes. The new competitive season has just begun, with the recent regional competition.
The Tecumseh Technobots, coached by Angie and Roger Chauvin of Tecumseh, have a very creative presentation as well as an outstanding robot for this year's Ocean Odyssey mission. Sponge Bob is part of their presentation that includes a rap song.
The Technobots have been diligently exploring the issue of water pollution to make their presentation stand out. The team has had four guest speakers and they’ve been on two field trips. The first was to help plant over 100 trees along Little River, with Tecumseh's Ian Naisbitt of the Little River Enhancement Group (“Lil Reg') and the other was to the Great Lakes Institute, with Dr. Ken Drouillard, who gave the team a great base for their research, says coach Angie. Their guest speakers included Melanie Coulter, implementation specialist for the Detroit River Cleanup Committee, and Mr. Ken Bondy, President of CAW environment council, who spoke to the team about mercury.
Their extra effort in the presentation aspect of the competition balances out a strong technical component with their robot’s performance of assigned tasks. Good luck at provincials next week!
