The North American Black Historical Museum is pleased to present a touring exhibit, On the Road North: Black Canada and the Journey to Freedom, from July 31 through September 26, 2010.
The exhibit in the Nazrey A.M.E. Church, National Historic Site of Canada, 277 King Street in Amherstburg, is open Tuesday through Friday from noon till 5 pm, weekends from 1 to 5 pm.
Produced by the Parks Canada Agency in collaboration with the Multicultural Program of the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, this travelling photo exhibition looks at the history of Blacks in Canada
“This is an excellent opportunity for the public to learn about the contributions of African Canadians throughout our history,” said Kenn Stanton, museum Curator/Administrator. “The exhibit has particular significance for Essex County because Amherstburg was the chief entry point into British territory for black freedom-seekers travelling the Underground Railroad. It was here that they could first see it was possible to cross the water into Canada.”
