Chromeo’s third album delivers the same blend of 80s synth-pop as previous efforts, replete with catchy hooks, tasty guitar riffs, and smoothly polished production. There’s nothing new about what P-Thugg and Dave 1 are doing, but there’s no denying that they are damn good at it.

Roger rocketing MLB towards unwatchability
Last week, police officers searched the offices of the Toronto Blue Jays and confiscated documents in connection with the perjury case against Roger Clemens. While baseball fans are asking whether he took steroids, what they should be asking is, “Who cares?” In case you “misremembered,” Clemens’ case began when his[Read More…]
Outlive, Outplay, Outlast
Thailand. Guatemala. Panama. Fiji. Micronesia. The list goes on. Any television show filmed in these places is automatically cool in my books. Of course I’m talking about Survivor, the best show on television. I usually get the same reaction when I talk about the show; “You still watch that?” Or eve; “That’s still on?” Yes, Survivor is still on and I still watch it. It’s been 10 years, 20 seasons, and Survivor is still just as awesome as it was when it first aired. No one can convince me otherwise.
The Vehicle of Free Speech
In 1987, a photograph by Andres Serrano earned $15,000 and the prestigious Award in Visual Arts from the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts. This photo also happened to set in motion a cascade of outcries, because it depicted Jesus Christ on a crucifix, submerged in a glass of the artist’s[Read More…]

Summer Entertainment Report Cards: Concerts – Lollapalooza
Since becoming permanently stationed in Chicago’s Grant Park in 2005, Lollapalooza has consistently delivered two things: impressive lineups and droves of people looking to see said lineups. This year featured hugely popular artists such as Green Day, Lady Gaga, and Arcade Fire alongside only slightly lesser-known but no less awesome acts, including Mumford & Sons, Chromeo and Wolfmother.
CD REVIEWS: Cancer Bats: Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones
I’ve had a soft spot for Cancer Bats since high school, watching them open many Alexisonfire shows in Toronto. I’ve endured the dirty looks received for wearing a shirt with “cancer” written on it, and for many other people their first two albums are too much to handle.
POP RHETORIC: Material Girl Gaga
When Lady Gaga first entered the pop music scene back in 2008, I forced myself to take a second look. Her lyrics were symbolic of both the feminine mystique and female empowerment, she wore avant-garde and provocative clothing (or a lack thereof), and she had the strong ability to capture the attention of millions by dominating the music charts for weeks on end.
THE SITUATION: Turn to the right
I thought I knew who I was before I came to university. I thought, for instance, that I wasn’t a racist. But when I told two girls tabling against Israel that the State had a right to exist, they cleared that up for me. Which was lucky, because after a year of educating my Jewish youth group on the dangers of Islamophobia, I might have gone my whole life not knowing how much I hated people different from me.
