Michael Bublé: Christmas

Michael Bublé brings class to Christmas classics and Christmas is solid all the way through. It’s got charm, personality, and brings a new, fresh flavour to songs that get overplayed every holiday season. There are elements of jazz, some contemporary pop, a bit of swing, and even some big band-esque 1920s sound.

The standout track is Bublé’s lone original, “Cold December Night.” No matter how much we may want to fight it, the cheesy lyrics fit his velvety voice and the sentiments of the season will warm your heart like a cup of hot cider.

The big band backing and his varying inflections on “Blue Christmas” are mindblowing. The musical interlude is grand, fun, and it pushes a melancholy song to a new level of enjoyment. Bublé also covers Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” but adds his own twist by slowing down the tempo. It sounds like a completely different song that is noteworthy in its own right.

He even includes an opening track in which he wishes his audience a  merry Christmas. What more could you want from a Yuletide album?
