A foremost concern among many first-year students in Rez is, besides getting used to the awkwardness of peeing in co-ed bathrooms, the safety of their living facility. Freshmen at McGill, many of whom are away from home for the first time in their lives, often need an extra hand at keeping threats to their safety at bay.

JOKE ISSUE: Journalists diagnosed with Stockholm Syndrome
McGill University’s Chief Medical Examiner Dr. John Bringham diagnosed three Tribune news editors and four McGill Daily editors with acute cases of Stockholm Syndrome on Monday. The Students’ Society’s biweekly Legislative Council meeting, he determined, was the chief cause.
UNCOMMONLY THOUGHTFUL: Oral sex is great
Warning: The following column is written with a heterosexual audience in mind (which is something I wouldn’t normally do), but generally I think the queer community is much more open to the joys of oral sex and doesn’t need a talking to on the subject. Why has performing oral sex become a derogatory thing? Why do the media, music industry and porn (okay, bad example) make it out to be all about power for the person receiving it? I think it’s about power for the person giving oral sex.
CAMPUS: 4Floors postponed
The recent events at Dawson College caused the Students’ Society to reschedule the traditional September 4Floors party in Shatner last week. However, after low attendance in previous years, many are wondering if 4Floors can ever be revived to its previous glory days.

CAMPUS: Frosh gets a fresh new face
Many things probably come to mind when one hears the word ‘Frosh.’ Debauchery, drunken antics on lower field, or perhaps an opportunity to take advantage of unsuspecting freshmen. This year’s SSMU Frosh attempted to change some of the images surrounding Frosh Week and change the focus of the event.

@MAC: New library slowly revealing itself
Students are finally beginning to see some results of the summer’s renovations on the Macdonald Campus Library. Only the upper level of the library, which houses the print journal collection, the photocopiers and some computers, was made available to students after being closed since May 1.

FRESH HELL: Losing your student ID
Being a student sucks sometimes. Crazy stress, daily intellectual calisthenics, and intense sleep deprivation are all part of the day-to-day routine. By now, you’re probably used to the stress – you may even enjoy it on some level. Still, many of you, like me, have likely been wishing for a lighter course load since you started learning fractions, or at least for a break from homework that didn’t coincide with getting a summer job.
